In the spirit of staying home, aren't all us coffee lovers becoming the baristas we never knew we were? hah!
It's been fun to try my hand at making new things at home and this week I did a Lavender Dirty Chai Latte.
Here's what you need:
To make lavender simple syrup, you need:
1/2 cup cane sugar
1/2 cup honey
1 tbsp lavender buds
1/2 cup water
To make a chai latte (hot or iced), you need:
Milk
Ice
Cold brew or espresso
Chai tea bag
Instructions to make the Lavender Simple Syrup:
Add the ingredients to a small saucepan over low heat and stir continuously until the sugar has dissolved, then turn the heat to medium-high and allow the mixture to simmer for about five minutes. You'll want to stay with it to make sure it doesn't boil or burn. The syrup is ready when it's slightly thickened.
Remove your pan from the heat and allow to cool. Use a strainer to separate out the lavender buds. You can store your syrup in an airtight container in the fridge.
Instructions to make a chai latte:
Start by heating 1/3 part milk on the stove or in the microwave until hot (or I use the Breville Milk Cafe which is one of my favorite kitchen appliances). Steep a chai tea bag in the milk until the milk has turned a nice caramel color. Pour the chai latte into a mug and add 1/3 part cold brew concentrate or shot of espresso. Drizzle with simple syrup and stir to warm and combine again.
If you're making an iced version: Fill a glass with ice and pour in 1/3 part cold brew concentrate or mix in an espresso shot. Once the chai milk has cooled, add it to the coffee/espresso. Stir to combine and add in 1TB of your lavender simple syrup or more to your taste preference!
